Community members from the affected communities are the first responders in the aftermath of disasters. First Aid and Basic Life Support are critical skills that the community members have to be equipped with. These are essential skills that need to be at satisfactory level among most of the community members. However, these skills may not be required for several years until an actual disaster occurs. It is important that community members undertake regular trainings and refresher trainings on these skills. Unfortunately, the community coverage of such trainings is often unsatisfactory and wanes off with the passage of time. A novel “LifeRewards” system to support those who undertake trainings and refresher training on first aid and Basic Life Support is proposed in order the increase and maintain satisfactory skill levels among community members.
“LifeRawards” training centers will be established at hospitals with Emergency Treatment Units with the physicians attached to the above centers as trainers and will be trained as trainers and examiners for “LifeRewards” system. Each community member is offered four “LifeRewards” opportunities per year to get trained or retrained on first aid and basic life support. At the completion of each of the “LifeRewards” opportunity, a cash reward will be provided to the trained community member. It is expected to create and sustain a demand for “LifeRewards” opportunities in the community through this mechanism.
